"Can I touch his fat feet, Mommy?" Part Deux

A few months ago, a young girl asked her Mother if she could pretty please touch Landon's "fat feet".

It turns out that the general public will see Landon's fat feet for quite awhile. Today while he and I were browsing for my Mother's birthday present, a sales person at Clark's asked if Landon had ever had his feet measured for his shoe size. The request was pretty timely, since Landon had just taken his first steps, and we knew we would have to start thinking about some shoes for the little guy when he's outdoors.

The Clark's guy explained that they sell customized "first shoes" since unlike other stores, they measure and size based on both the length and the width of babies feet. Sounds good right?

Fifteen minutes and five pairs of shoes later, the Clark's sales team admitted defeat. We couldn't find ANY shoes that would fit Landon's little bear-paw feet! They really are the cutest things - almost the same length, width, and height!

Good thing that we are experiencing record-breaking heat, huh? Let's all hope that his feet flatten out a bit before winter arrives :)

Baby Steps

Landon was especially sweet today...probably because I gave him spaghetti for lunch...

He also showed off some new skills - he took his first steps! Even though it doesn't make any sense, those two steps are about as momentous to me as the first steps on the moon! Which would explain why I have been singing "I was walking on the moon one day...in the merry, merry month of May!" to myself all day.

Kind of.

Awwww shucks, Mom!

Landon was in a mischievous mood this morning - testing his limits - aka LEARNING. He was laughing hysterically every time I told him "No", even when I used by uber-scary finger snap and point!

Sometimes I realize how funny it is in the moment, and those are the times that I say "If you touch that carbon monoxide detector ONE MORE TIME then I will be forced to say 'no' again in a firm but gentle voice"!

This morning every time I told Landon "No" he would reply with an "Awwwww", sometimes even with hand gestures. I burst out laughing the first time he did it, which probably explains the repetition, huh? Next time I will have to burst out laughing when he listens to me, and see if that one catches on as well...

Times are a changing!

I haven't quite gotten used to Landon's new skills yet. He surprises me every day! He and I were playing in his playroom when I heard the phone ring. I ran into the living room to grab the phone, then ran back into the playroom. As I rounded the corner, I stopped suddenly and was caught off guard - Landon was standing in the middle of the foyer, waiting on me to come back! I don't know how long he had been standing there...nor how he got there, but he sure is learning quickly!

I guess all of his new activities are wearing him out too. Yesterday while I was carrying him on my hip, he rested his elbow on my shoulder, and then rested his chin on his fist. That baby will flat out chill anywhere he goes! I can't even blame it on him watching MTV either...must be his natural inclination to "laaaaaay back"! Father's Day on the Lake!

For his first Father's Day, I rented a lake house at the nearby Lake Gaston. We invited our besties David and Brandy, and their daughter Steele to come along as well. The more the merrier, right?

The fun started when we arrived at the front door and began looking for the hide-a-key above the door sill...apparently a favorite spot for spiders! David was grumbling about and having a hard time finding the key, while Landon was laughing hysterically at him! I know that it's not a very nice thing to laugh at people when they are having a hard time, but while Landon's still a baby, it's pretty hilarious to see him crack up when someone falls, slips or suffers some other sort of trouble. Especially when's its David. (That one was for Phillip).

The next morning after a relaxing evening on the deck overlooking the lake, we visited our friends The Royals, who own their very own house on the lake, an awesome low-country cottage worthy of Southern Living. We added our two kids to their three kids and piled onto their pontoon boat for some water fun. This was Landon's first time on a boat, and also his first time in a life preserver.

When we first took off in the boat, I held Landon in my arms, but before long he was ready to explore. I put him down on the deck of the boat, letting him stand and then slowly put his arms down to get his balance. I guess he wasn't used to crawling in the vest, or because the floor of the boat was moving, but he stayed in the downward dog yoga pose for at least 2 full minutes! We were all laughing hysterically (he looked like a baby turtle with his life vest) but sadly did not get a picture because we all thought he would move at any second! After he figured things out, he took off and never looked back. Seems like we have a water baby!

Busy as can be...

Landon and I have had a busy week! We visited my Mother in Wilmington, then headed back home to prepare for our Father's Day (long) weekend at the lake, and even fit in a impromptu playdate with Josi and Ian!

Up and Down

We had a momentous event in our house this week - Landon pieced together his first sentence! Ever since he said "I want down" he has been crawling around the house, doing a baby-talk play-by-play. Standing up to look out the window gets an "up". Crawling toward the stairs gets an "up". And feeding in his table chair gets an "up". Hmm, life was easier when I could interpret his grunting and squirming as "I want more spinach"...now his "up"s are definitive "get me out of this chair" statements!
