Evolution of Dance

Last night Phillip and I decided that our family was finished with our latest eating experiment: letting Landon sit in an adult chair, with no booster, straps, or anything. He fought so hard against a booster seat of any kind, and for a few weeks, it looked like he was happy with his new chair status. But all good things must come to an end right?

After he refused to sit safely in his chair, we moved him back to the booster. After he tried to throw all of his left0over food on the floor, we also removed his plate from in front of him (he was finished eating and just playing). So basically this was just an exercise in Landon learning some patience, and sitting still while we finished our meal.

Evidently Landon thought our idea sounded boring. After a congratulatory "fist bump" from his Dad for sitting so nicely in his booster, Landon decided to take us down memory lane of all of his party tricks.

He started out with some fist bumps, did some high fives, then moved on to some "cheers" with his sippy cup and our glasses. The montage continued with his authentic referee touchdown signal...and for the finale...the cabbage patch dance!!!

He is such a little comedian, and loves finding ways to make people laugh. I told Phillip last night that I always thought comedians used humor to deflect their own pain, or to get attention...but now I have changed my mind. I think they can be born with the desire to make people laugh! What a nice gift huh?

18 Months Old

Happy Half Birthday to our sweet little boy! I can't believe that he is a year and a half old! And what a nice week for him; first our Valentine's Day celebration, and now he will need to have some sort of celebration today right?

Rocky Top

Last weekend we headed to my grandparent's house to check out their new shindigs, and to attend the birthday party of Landon's (third) cousin Lexi, who just turned two years old. The weather was really nice in Tennessee, and we had a blast!

Landon played basketball with his grandparents, explored their 10 acre lot, watched the neighboring farms horses and cows, played on the play set, and ran around with his two cousins Bryson and Lexi - busy weekend! And most important of all, we spent some treasured time with family that we don't get to see enough...

Smarty Pants

We've all heard the news headlines that suggest Asian children are smarter than American children. Well people, I'm here to tell you that it's not true! Take this situation for example:

Today Landon and I visited our local playground for some socializing and exercise. We had the whole park to ourselves, except for another family with a little girl Landon's same age. She was a very cute Asian girl; let's call her A.J.

While Landon repeatedly knocked on his own head, yelled "knock, knock!" then laughed repeatedly, what do you think that young A.J. did?

Umm, she played with bark.

And when I say "played with bark" I actually mean "counted bark". Like to ten.

Then she started in on the alphabet.

That's when Landon and I packed it in and headed home. I don't mean to sound pretentious, but I don't know if I want my son hanging out with other toddlers like that...kids are so impressionable at this age...you have to be really careful with whom you let your kids socialize.

If not, who knows what could happen? Honor roll? Ivy League? Scholarships? It never ends!

(Note to my Mom: before you call me to tell me that Landon is a modern-day Renaissance man and genius, understand that I know this, but am having a bit of fun with sarcasm and stereotypes. That is all.)

Superbowl Funday

Today Landon was FINALLY back to normal, and I didn't realize how much I missed "our Landon". It's nice to see him laugh and smile so easily again.

But this post is about yesterday! Although Landon was a little more restrained and quiet compared to his natural personality, he still made a big day of the big game. We went to our friend's house for a Carolina game / Superbowl party, and Landon felt very special hanging out with the adults.

During the Carolina game, he tossed around his UNC football with everybody, and snuck a few bites of some Buffalo chicken dip. This kid has Frank's Red Hot Sauce in his veins!

After the game, we all headed outside to enjoy the nice weather. Landon joined in on some cornhole, rode his tricycle around the cul-de-sac, tossed the football with his favorite "uncles" (we call all of our childhood friends uncle or aunt, which will probably be confusing to him one day, but is too fun to resist), then went back inside for some Superbowl party snacks. Namely cookie cake and chocolate milk.

He even scored his first foosball goal! Not too hard to do when you are the only one playing, you are playing for both teams, and you have four foosball balls on the table at one time, but still, not too bad for a 17 month old!

Yep, Definitely!

After one dose of the antibiotic, Landon is definitely feeling better! And I have tangible, physical proof:

1. I look like a frazzled version of Cathy from that long-ago comic strip, and

2. It's only noon and I have developed an eye twitch

Bet you thought that physical proof would relate to Landon's person huh? Let the Mommy adventures resume!!!

Feeling Better

I think that Landon may be feeling a little better this afternoon - he is starting to act a little bit more like himself.

Last week he and I went to CVS to fill his prescription before his surgery. While we were there he noticed that CVS has AMAZING carts that have big toy cars on the front for the kids to drive. These carts are 90% toy car, and 10 cart!

Since he wasn't feeling better as soon as his doctors hoped after the ear tubes and adenoidectomy, we had to go back to CVS for a second antibiotic. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, Landon became very excited and started pointing at a shopping cart left in the parking lot. I was kind of confused and asked Landon, "do you want to ride in this cart honey?". He said no and started pulling me into the store.

Can you believe that the little munchkin remembered those carts from last week? (I didn't remember myself!) He had a lovely time "driving" the cart up and down the aisles, and an even better time sitting in a child size tailgate chair and coloring with two older children while we waited for his prescription.

It's so funny to me; at home he doesn't like to color, and won't do anything artsy for more than 30 seconds, but I could hardly pull him away from the coloring table today! It was quite a scene to watch the kids huddled around the table, and to see Landon swap crayons back and forth with the 6 and 8 year old kids...too sweet!
